Working alone or with teams Dr. Demerest helps companies define biotech market trends and establish business strategies and programs most effective for achieving short and long-term objectives.  Dr. Demerest holds an MD from Columbia University and a MBA from New York University.  She is an adjunct professor at Stanford University, Palo Alto and Golden Gate University, San Francisco.  She is a published author in Biotech\High Tech publications: PC Magazine; Forbes; Wall Street Journal; Healthy Mind Healthy Body; Contra Costa Times;  and the San Francisco Chronicle.

Projects range from strategic to crisis management. Client list consists of early stage start-ups and Fortune 1000's including Fresenius Hemotechnology Inc., Johnson & Johnson Health Care Systems, Ciba Pharmaceuticals, HELIX SYSTEMS, High Technology Co., Biofield, Cypress BioSciences, AXOLOTL, High Technology Corp., BD Biosciences, Cross-Over Communications Inc., and JSA Communications.

Representative projects include:

  • Activated crisis corporate communications management intervention for the President of Ciba Pharmaceuticals during a difficult downsizing period.  Contributions encompassed speech writing, employee communications plans, press communications and national script preparations for Ciba sales regional managers.
  • Served as interim Biotech Communications VP for Fresenius Hemotechnolgy.  Reviewed market research and clinical trial data to establish market feasibility for product positioning and longer-term business plans.  Wrote all medical content for company’s first web site (www.freseniusht.com).  Reviewed biotech market conditions to establish disease application trends for new product development.
  • Key contributor to practiceID a web based medical communications start-up dot.com. Identified market trend for the growing demand for cosmetic medical procedures. Conducted primary and secondary research to formulate business plan and prepare financial road show. (www.drkwolek.com)
  • Led swat team effort to rapidly develop marketing communications materials for HELIX SYSTEMS' first product introduction, state-of-the-art software for laboratory data management, at the American Chemical Society Conference.  The product uses bio-informatics in software to handle work group communications for scientific information, life science, and pharmaceutical and chemical research groups.
  • After conducting marketing research, on bioinformatics, developed a pre-emptive marketing communications program for AXOLOTL, a high technology-based service company. This innovative collaborative clinical information system links independent health care organizations and medical insurance companies.  The underlying Internet and messaging technologies especially challenged product communications.
